Small dog sweater

"Free easy crochet patterns"

I found this  free and easy small dog sweater made up in granny squares. I love free easy crochet patterns and this one is one of my favorites. If you have been looking for an easy crochet dog sweater, this is just the one for you. At the bottom you will find a chart on how to assemble the squares. Have fun and keep those furbabies warm.

SIZE: About 10" from neck to tail
MATERIALS:  Knitting worsted weight yarn, scraps of a variety of colors (tan, red-brown, and black shown). Crochet hook, size H (if a larger size is desired, use larger hook) 3 buttons.

GAUGE:  Square = 2-1/2"

GRANNY SQUARES:

Make 19:

With tan, ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 for first dc, 2 dc in ring, ch 2 for comer, (3 dc in ring, ch2) 3 times, join with sl st to top of starting ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join red-brown at any corner, ch 3 for first dc, in same spacework 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1, (in next ch-2 comer work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1) 3times, join with sl st to top of starting ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join black at any comer, ch 3 for first dc, in same comer work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, * ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, in corner work 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc; repeat from * 2 times more, end ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1,join with sl st to starting ch. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Join squares together following diagram below. To shape back edge, fold comers under (dash lines) and sew in place.

Border: Join black and work around coat evenly in sc, working 3 sc in each outside comer and no stitches on inside corners. Work another rnd in sc as before, working button loops on right front edge as follows: Work 2 sc after comer, ch 6, skip 3 sc, sc to last 5 sc before comer, ch 6, skip 3 sc, continue around in sc.

Next Rnd: Work in sc as before, working 6 sc in each loop. Sew 2 buttons in place on left front edge as indicated on diagram.

Measure coat on dog. The coat can be made slightly larger around by adding rows of sc to the end of the strap that fits under the dog's body. Adjust as necessary and sew last button in place on strap; use a ch-1 space in granny square for button loop, as shown in graph.
